When wisdom teeth begin to emerge in young adults around the ages of 17 and 25 there can be several issues that result, causing one or more of the four molars to need to be pulled.
Wisdom teeth removal may be necessary if they do not grow above the gumline, therefore becoming impacted. Other times they need to be taken out because there is not enough room for the wisdom teeth to fit along the jawline and they push the other teeth out of alignment. Before this can happen, extraction may be recommended.
If wisdom teeth are hurting and causing pain, it may be due to poor brushing and flossing. They can be difficult to reach because of their location in the far back corners of the mouth. Removal may be recommended to help prevent decay and complications down the line.
What Happens at an Appointment
An examination and x-rays will be performed prior to a surgical date. The procedure will be performed by an oral surgeon with your health and safety at the forefront. Sedation options can be discussed. After-care instructions will be given for your recovery period.
